Job Description

The Corporate Communications Manager will join the Vista Outdoor Corporate Communications team, reporting to the Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications. The Corporate Communications Manager will build, implement and oversee the external communications strategy for Vista Outdoor. The Manager will work closely with internal partners and teammates while ensuring consistent messaging with external stakeholders, with a focus on strengthening the reputation of Vista Outdoor and creating awareness for key corporate, brand and financial deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Create, align, manage and execute the external communications strategy for the Vista Outdoor, including management of vistaoutdoor.com

  • Develop and oversee media relations and thought-leadership opportunities internally and across digital, print and broadcast channels for executive leadership

  • Support the quarterly earnings process, including writing and editing scripts and developing communications materials in support of the earnings call.

  • Prepare and disseminate corporate, brand and product news and company-wide initiatives that positively impact the external communications strategy; including management of the Newsroom on vistaoutdoor.com.

  • Support brand and corporate leaders in the creation and publishing of content related to Corporate Responsibility and our purpose/vision/commitments; support the development of the annual ESG Report.

  • Serve as a strategic partner to brand communications teams; ensure message consistency on issues in which brand and corporate interests overlap, including, but not limited to: crisis communications, product recalls, media training and major brand-level press releases.

  • Direct and oversee agencies across projects and activities to ensure overall external communications strategies and tactics are being executed as intended by third party partners.

  • Work closely with other corporate functions in support of their mission, including, but not limited to: Investor Relations, Legal, Government Relations and the Vista Outdoor Foundation.

  • Work closely with the Strategic Communications Manager and Corporate Communications Specialist on message consistency, functional tactics and cross-training to avoid single points of failure within the Communications Department.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience successfully supporting communications for cross-functional teams

  • Broad experience in communications, strategic thinking, plan development, execution and reporting

  • Proven ability to write/edit superior strategic PR plans, press releases, website content, etc.

  • Strong oral and written communications capabilities; strong leadership and people management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with short turnaround times or deadlines.

  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, fluid environment and be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to be self-directed while working under tight/fluid deadlines

  • Experience in a publicly traded company supporting quarterly earnings and related events, ESG reporting and other annual reports is strongly preferred

  • Familiarity and experience working with the Microsoft Suite, including Powerpoint, Word and Excel; Cision Comms Cloud, PR Newswire/Cision required

  • Familiarity and experience working with Microsoft Sharepoint; Wordpress strongly preferred

  • Experience with corporate social media channels a plus, with an emphasis on the following channels: Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook a plus

  • Experience with corporate website and social media metrics and analytics a plus

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in internal or external communications, marketing or other public facing roles; experience working in-house for a publicly traded company is preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, with a focus on Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing preferred
