Overview

This role will maintain the development and information flow of new footwear models, from design technical package, opening tooling for commercialization and production through buy ready status.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Footwear and is a hyrbrid role working 2 days from home and 3 days from the Irvine, CA headquarters.

As the Sr. Development Engineer – Footwear , you will have an opportunity to:

  • Direct daily vendor communication and management

  • Daily communication with Asia-based development manager on progress of model development and commercialization

  • Create and maintain development and commercialization schedule.

  • Initial model pre-costing, initial quote and negotiation

  • Maintain PLM data in areas of responsibility (costing, sourcing, etc.)

  • Communicate with Ops on commercialization and buy ready dates for Sales Samples and Production

  • Periodic communication with Asia-based production manager regarding product quality

  • Organize and maintain sample inventory for reference (prototypes, full-size runs, golden samples, etc.)

  • Assist with tooling blueprint, 3D checks to ensure last compatibility and manufacturability.

  • As needed, advise on production questions post-commercialization as they arise.

  • Maintain network of Tier 1 and 2 suppliers for alternative development and production.

  • International travel required to vendors for development, commercialization, and production reviews.

  • Continuously improve upon the development process both within the category and cross functionally.

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineer or Business Management or related field experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of road bike shoe development experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of technical footwear or bike shoe development experience.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in product development, commercialization, and production focused on sporting goods product lines sourced both domestically and offshore (particularly in Asia) is highly desirable.

  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office application primarily Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Illustrator.

  • Experience with product line management systems (PLM).

  • Extensive knowledge and strong interest in cycling.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical knowledge of footwear construction, materials, and tooling development.

  • Be able to diagnose the products and find the solutions to finetune the product.

  • Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong, collaborative, teamwork skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships.

  • Solid knowledge of product costing and product margin.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Strong multi-tasking and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple, complex projects and work independently within deadlines.

  • Strong analytical, math and problem-solving skills.

  • Careful attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Self-confident, self-motivated, results-oriented and success driven.

  • Ability to work long/non-standard hours when necessary.

  • Ability to travel, including two to three (3-5) multi-week trips to Asia annually.

Pay Range:

$97,700.00 - $152,900.00

The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
