Vista Outdoor Footwear Developer in Irvine, California

Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW

As a Giro Footwear Developer, you will be an integral part of the development team, responsible for creating innovative and functional footwear products that meet the brand’s standards for quality, performance, and style. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, engineers, and product managers, to bring new footwear concepts from ideation to production. You will maintain the development and information flow of new footwear models, from design technical package through buy ready status.

This position reports to the Sr. Director of Hardgoods and allows you the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule from your home and our Irvine, CA headquarters.

As the Footwear Developer for Giro, you will have an opportunity to:

1. Product Design:

o Collaborate with the design team to develop footwear concepts that align with Giro’s brand identity and customer needs. This includes sketching, creating prototypes, and using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

2. Materials Selection:

o Research and select appropriate materials for footwear production, considering factors like durability, comfort, and performance. Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to source high-quality materials.

3. Technical development:

o Work closely with engineers and technicians to ensure that footwear designs are technically feasible and can be manufactured efficiently. Address technical challenges and provide solutions.

  • Create and maintain development and commercialization schedule

  • Maintain PLM data in areas of responsibility (costing, sourcing, etc.)

4. Prototyping:

o Create prototypes and samples t test and validate design concepts. Conduct wear-testing and make necessary adjustments to improve product performance and comfort.

o Communicate with Ops on commercialization and buy ready dates for Sales Samples and Production

5. Cost Analysis:

o Collaborate with the product management team to assess production costs and make recommendations to meet budgetary constraints while maintaining product quality.

o Initial model pre-costing, initial quote and negotiation

6. Quality Control:

o Establish and implement quality control standards and procedures to ensure that finished products meet Giro’s quality and performance expectations.

7. Production Support:

o Work with manufacturing partners to oversee the production process, troubleshoot issues, and ensure that the final products adhere to design specifications.

o Daily communication with Asia-based developer on progress of model development and commercialization

o Direct daily vendor communication and management.

o Periodic communication with Asia-based production manager regarding product quality

8. Market Research:

o Stay informed about industry trends, competitor products, and customer preference to drive product innovation and differentiation.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field experience

  • Minimum 5 years of related experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product development and management, focused on sporting goods product lines sourced both domestically and offshore (particularly in Asia) is highly desirable

  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office application primarily Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Illustrator

  • Experience with product line management systems (PLM)

  • Extensive knowledge and strong interest in cycling

  • Technical knowledge of footwear construction and tooling development

  • Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong, collaborative, teamwork skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships

  • Solid knowledge of product costing and product margin

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

  • Strong multi-tasking and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple, complex projects and work independently within deadlines

  • Strong analytical, math and problem-solving skills

  • Careful attention to detail and accuracy

  • Self-confident, self-motivated, results-oriented and success driven

Pay Range:

$75,300.00 - $112,900.00

The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
